The federally funded Weatherization Assistance Program helps low- and extremely low-income reduce energy costs by improving the energy efficiency of their home.
The process starts with a comprehensive energy audit, conducted by a trained professional. The auditor will visit the home, diagnose the home’s energy profile, and may prescribe the installation of one or more weatherization services. When the audit is completed, an independent contractor will install the required weatherization services. Following installation, the auditor will return to inspect and approve the work. Program participation requires some investment of time on multiple days by the homeowner, and someone 18 or over must be present when contractors are in the home.
Homeowners and renters, at 200% of federal poverty guidelines, can apply.
